Many decades ago, there is a great distinction between men and women’s wear. Men were stereotyped to wear trousers/pants while women have to put on skirts. With this perception, women prevented themselves from trying pants so that the society will not be offended.

In 1913, Paul Poiret designed one of the first pants for women. His creations were known as harem pants that were inspired by costumes of an Arabian opera show. Meanwhile, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel wore this tabooed outfit and began to create her own designs too. Chanel focused on creating comfortable pants that will be worn by women in sports activities especially horseback riding.

It was Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn who always include trousers in their fashion style. In addition to this publicity, Vogue magazine featured models in trouser in their 1939 issue. Since then, they became one of the most worn fashion style for women. Later on, they were matched with jackets to complete the business look.

Gucci Fall 08/09 Ad Campaign: Brings Out Every Woman's Bohemian Wild Side

For Fall 08/09 collection, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini explored the glamorous world of Bohemia. The collection is a combination of luxury with a bit of rock n’ roll.

Ornate embroidery with gold thread, metal disks, gold tassels and small beading touches everything from the sleeves of floaty silk dresses to the waists of cropped shearling jackets. Glittering metal or jeweled accents cover shoulders and hems, while sphere-like gold studs decorate the surface of bags, shoe booties and cropped leather jackets. The pants for this season is: narrow, low-waisted and with built-in stirrup closures. With grosgrain or passementerie piping, the pants are paired with soft embroidered shirts, heavy wool jackets covered in rich detail, and are tucked in to over-the-knee, fringed boots. Skirts, meanwhile are short, heavily decorated and paired with cropped hip-height jackets.

Trend Alert: Plaids

Plaid or Tartan may be considered as a trend for fall season but over the past few days celebrities seemed to enjoy plaids more than ever before. Dresses, skirts, shirts, and even accessories were available in this pattern.

There are many ways to wear it but everyone can make it modern by sporting a swingy plaid skirt, a fitted jacket, a great cape or a sexy silk blouse.

Oscar De La Renta Cruise 2009 Collection

The Cruise 2009 Collection of Oscar de la Renta is composed of 66 sophisticated wardrobe and was presented with elegance and style in a serene setting of cherry blossoms on white washed trees.

The collection include a number of stunning lace and silk dresses, crisp separates and grownup trousers with kaleidoscope of colors of corals, blues, pinks, yellows, emeralds and corals. At first glance, I thought I am viewing a Christmas collection. Everyone was surprised to see the mix of equestrian hats or the riding hats with a couple of the looks. The climax of the runway show was de la Renta's exhibition of voluminous gowns that quite literally had a five foot radius.

Cruise 2009 Collection: Christian Dior

Christian Dior's John Galliano presented a brightly themed Cruise 2009 collection last week. He successfully pulled a colorful show that unites different elements of color, style, detail and fabrics that reflects the 60's trends with a Mexican twist.

The collection include pleated skirts, flouncy off-the-shoulder tops and of course, colorful sombreros that were so chic. Galliano's evening gowns came with full skirts, tiered layers, bows and embellished necklines. Tunics, capri pants, perfect suits, psychedelic prints, silk shantung, oversized costume jewelry arrived in Starburst colors.

As for the accessories, the designer used platform wedges and destined-to-be-the-next-It-bag Dior hobos that were fanciful and colorful.

Fashion Wars: Louis Vuitton vs Darfur Fundraiser and Juicy Couture vs Victoria’s Secret

Louis Vuitton sued Nadia Plenser, a Danish student artist and designer, for her “Simple Living” campaign. Nadia is a fundraiser that supports the Divest for Darfur organization. She drew an image of a young Darfur child holding a chihuahua dog and sporting a designer bag that looked like the famous Louis Vuitton’s Murakami Multicolore canvas pattern. Louis Vuitton filed a lawsuit last April 15th and demands payment for their ‘intellectual property’.

Meanwhile, last April 29 Juicy Couture filed a lawsuit against Victoria's Secret Pink. They accused VS for using similar ideas and icons, such as their trademark seat-of-the-pants Juicy logo and selling apparel wrapped in the shape of lollipops and ice cream cones, mimicking the packaging used in Juicy's Sweet Shoppe.The company is asking for the offending clothing to be destroyed and to be awarded triple damages.
